Declining Promotion
Airmen may decline a promotion in writing by submitting a letter to the military personnel flight (MPF).
Timing
Declination may be accomplished any time prior to the promotion effective date.
Required Letter Contents
- Name
- Social security number
- Promotion cycle
- Promotion sequence number (if already selected)
- Statement of understanding that reinstatement will NOT be authorized
Processing
The MPF will:
- Update the Military Personnel Data System (MilPDS)
- Forward a copy of the declination letter to AFPC
- File in the member's Automated Records Management System (ARMS)
