Accrual Rate
2.5 Days Per Month
Members accrue 2.5 days leave for each month of RegAF status.
When Leave Is NOT Earned
Leave Not Earned States
Members do NOT earn leave when they are:
- Absent without official leave
- In an unauthorized leave status
- In confinement as a result of a court-martial sentence
- In an excess leave status
- On appellate leave
Maximum Carryover
60-Day Fiscal Year Cap
Members may accumulate a maximum of 60 days by the end of a fiscal year.
Exception
60-Day Cap Exception
There are certain circumstances when a leave balance of more than 60 days may be carried forward into a new fiscal year, but only when specifically authorized.
Accrued Leave Payment
Accrued Leave Payment Maximum
By law, members may receive accrued leave payment up to a maximum of 60 days at certain points in their careers, such as:
- Reenlistment
- Retirement
- Separation under honorable conditions
- Death
